September 23rd kicks off the 19th annual Gram Parsons Guitar Pull and Tribute Festival at the Okefenokee Fairgrounds. Celebrate the country legend who spent his youth in Waycross, Georgia. The festival pays tribute to Gram Parsons’ Cosmic American Soul music, which paved a new path for songwriters across America.
What started as a friends-only guitar pull in 1998 at one of the festival founder’s homes has turned into a national event. Expect to see kids and adults of all ages participate in the Gram Parsons Guitar Pull. Primitive camping is free with the price of admission, but if you’d rather stay elsewhere, a wristband allows you to come in and out of the festival as you please.
Arrive Friday afternoon and set up your tent in time to catch acts like Donna Frost, Laurel Lee and the Escapees, and Back City Woods perform. Saturday you can spend time cooking over a fire or checking out local vendors before catching the next round of performers, ending with Devils in Disguise. The winners of this year’s Gram Parsons Guitar Pull Songwriting Contest will perform too. Those aspiring songwriters who missed out on the contest this year had better start preparing their submissions for the 2017 festival now. This Waycross event only plans to get bigger!
